Assessment sessions are usually an hour and involve:

Sharing of information related to your child's health, developmental, educational and family history
Observation in play and interaction
Informal measures and standardised assessments

* Therapy sessions are usually an hour long, but range between 30-90 minutes, depending on your child's / family's needs. Sessions may be in the clinic, in your child's school, child care centre, home or other community based service.

Intervention through therapy sessions or programs may include strategies to meet goals regarding:
Speech production (articulation)
Understanding and use of language
Augmentative communication (picture symbols, key word signs) to support spoken communication
Social communication skills
Phonological awareness and literacy difficulties
Speech fluency (stuttering)
Use of voice
Eating, drinking and saliva control
Breast or bottle feeding

Jacqui Dean is the Principal Speech Pathologist. She has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) from Latrobe University, in Melbourne. She is a Certified Practising Member of Speech Pathology Australia and is registered to provide services through:

With over 22 years of paediatric experience, Jacqui specialises in working with children (birth - 12 years), with a wide range of needs, through a collaborative, evidence based and family focussed approach.

Services are provided for children with a range of conditions including:
Developmental delays
Diagnosed disabilities including congenital syndromes, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, vision impairment, cleft lip and palate
Delayed or disordered speech and language development
Fluency / Stuttering
Phonological awareness and literacy difficulties
Social communication difficulties
Feeding difficulties

Q Funding Options

Private health funds
Please check with your health fund regarding potential claim entitlements under your policy. A gap payment will be required.
HICAPS allows for convenient processing of claims.

* Medicare rebates apply for eligible clients.
These programs include:

- Chronic Disease Management (CDM) for clients with a chronic or complex medical condition requiring a GP Management Plan or Team Care Arrangement
(Item 10970 Rebate = $52.95)
A maximum of 5 sessions per calendar year may be claimed from an allied health professional.

- Speech Pathology Health Service for a person who is of Aborginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
(Item 81360 Rebate = $52.95)
An additional 5 sessions per calendar year may be claimed from an allied health professional.

- Helping Children with Autism and Betterstart programs for clients under 13 years of age, when diagnosed and under 15 yeas of age at the time of treatment.
(Assessment Item 82005 Rebate = $74.80 and Treatment Item 82020 Rebate = $74.80).
A maximum of 4 assessment sessions and a maximum of 20 treatment sessions may be claimed from an allied health professional.

Please see your GP for advice about eligibility and referral for Medicare rebates (with the exception of Medicare HCWA services, which require a Paediatrician / Psychiatrist referral).
A gap payment will be required. HICAPS allows for convenient reimbursement of rebates into your nominated account.

* Department of Social Services, Early Intervention Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) and Betterstart Programs
- Funding is available for eligible children, for additional early intervention therapy and resources. $6000 is available per financial year, up to a maximum of $12000 prior to the child turning 7 years old. This funding may include a therapy resource component of $2100 per financial year or $4200 in total. DSS makes retrospective payments from a client's funding package to approved service providers, on behalf of the client.

* Step by Step Speech Pathology fees depend on the length of session and service provided. Fees are required to be paid by EFTPOS / HICAPS on the day of the session, or by internet banking / EFT within 7 days by agreement. Discounted therapy package sessions are to be booked in advance and paid for prior to , or on the day of the session.
